"The evolution of Hellenic costume"

The first official stop on the CMLE’s journey is the temporary exhibition “The evolution of Hellenic costume”, which attempts to chronicle the developing path of female costume in the historic Hellenic world from the 2nd century BC through to the end of the 19thcentury.

The exhibition includes representative samples from the collection of Minoan, Ancient Greek, and Byzantine garments, all faithful replicas of surviving relics from each era. The replica costumes were created at the Lykeion ton Ellinidon during the early 20thcentury, in the spirit of the timeless overview and the unbroken continuity of Hellenic culture. The exhibition also includes some of the rarest samples of regional costumes and jewellery in the collection.
