The Lykeion Ellinidon Ammochostou (in Ammochostos/Famagusta) was founded in 1930 on the initiative of Maria Ioannou, who served as its president until her death in 1970.

In 1974, after the occupation of the city by the Turkish army, its members scattered. The rebuilding of the Lykeion began in Lemessos (Limassol), where most of its members had ended up.
