This is the first publication on women’s and men’s garments, accessories and jewellery included in the Cypriot collection section of the Costume Museum of Lykeion ton Ellinidon (CMLE).

The items in the collection were acquired by the Lykeion ton Ellinidon in the course of the 20th century, both through purchases and through donations. To a certain degree, they reflect the long-standing relationship between Lykeion ton Ellinidon and Cyprus and their acquisition may, at least in part, be related to the activities of the National Dances Section of Lykeion ton Ellinidon and specifically to the performances of the Dance Group of Lykeion ton Ellinidon, both in Greece and abroad, which required authentic local costumes. The items, classified by type, are accompanied by a photograph and a detailed description which follows the structure of the documentation entry.

This scientific catalogue is authored by Euphrosyne Rizopoulou-Egoumenidou, Professor Emeritus of Folk Art and Architecture of the History and Archaeology Section of the University of Cyprus’s School of Philosophy. The publication is enriched with a text by Dr Noly Moyssi called “The Lykeion ton Ellinidon and its influence in Cyprus”. It also includes an extensive chapter written by the author, which covers all aspects of the Cypriot costume, titled “Clothing in Cyprus from the 18th to the 20th century: Traditional costumes”.
