The LtE were honorary participants at the fourth Mallorca World Folk Festival in Palma (31st March–7th April).
Dance performances at the Bucharest National Opera House, as part of events aiming to strengthen Greek-Romanian relationships (25th–30th April).
The Folk Dance Group participated in festivities to celebrate 650 years from Rotterdam being granted city rights.
Dance performance at the Herodeion, entitled “Songs and dances from the Greek wedding ritual” (17th July).
The educational programme “Training for teachers of Greek dancing” took place, with the support of the European Social Fund and the Ministry of Culture (30th September–20th December). The programme also took place in the two following years.
The educational programme “Training in the care and maintenance of traditional costumes” took place, with the support of the European Social Fund and the Ministry of Culture (2nd October–28th December).
Dance performance at the Megaron (the Athens Concert Hall) – the first one hosted at the Megaron – entitled “Songs and Dances of Macedonia”. The proceeds were donated to the Hellenic Cancer Action charity.
Dancers took part in an event organised by the Greek embassy in Madrid in collaboration with Madrid Polytechnic University, under the aegis of Queen Sofia (1st June). The proceeds were donated to SOS Children’s Villages.
A bust of Callirrhoe Parren by sculptor K. Valsamis was unveiled at the First Cemetery of Athens (6th June).

Dancers participated in the events organised for Greek Independence Day on 25th March by the Greek community in Houston.
The Folk Dance Group participated in the Geneva Book and Press Fair (5th–7th May).
Dance performance at Bridgewater House in London, as part of a charity event organised by Yannis Latsis on 30th June.
The LtE participated in the first pilot programme of the 3rd Νetwork for Innovative Programmes for older people and intergenerational solidarity, with the work “The Lykeion seeks signs of its history”. The programme continued for the next two years.
Eleni Bobou Protopapa’s book The Lykeion ton Ellinidon 1911–1991 was published.
Under the aegis of the Section for Women’s and Children’s Issues, and as part of its annual activities, a play was presented at the Greek National Opera in December. Students from the Argyroupoli Special School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing People presented “Cinderella”. In 2003, the Hellenic Federation of the Deaf honoured the LtE for its “valued contribution” over a decade.
The first CD was published, with the title “Eastern Rumelia, Megalo and Mikro Monastiri, Dances from Neo Monastiri Domokou” (LCGW 117).
Participation in the Festival in Nuoro, Sardinia, by invitation of the group Gli Amici Del Folklore. The Folk Dance Group was awarded as the best dance presence (1st July).
Two dance performances at the Odessa Opera House as part of a programme of events by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture (1st September).
On 10th March, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “Kerchiefs and scarves in Greek regional costumes”.
Dimitrios Antonopoulos donated the building on 4 Alexandras Avenue to the LtE. The building was named "Megaron Antonopoulou" in his honour.
The Folk Dance Group took part in the Agrigento Festival in February, and was awarded a trophy for its participation.
Dancers participated in the event “The Myth of Sicily” which took place in the Greek Theatre of Syracuse on 4th July and was broadcast on Italian national television.
On 14th October, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “Costumes of the Sarakatsani”.
Dance performance at the European Parliament in Strasbourg to celebrate 15 years from Greece’s entry to the EU (17th January).
Dance performance at the Megaron (Athens Concert Hall) with the title “The Greek wedding ritual” on 1st February. It was organised by the Côte d’Ivoire Consulate and the proceeds were donated towards building a Greek library in Kouassi Datekro.
Dance performance at the Herodeion, with the title “Songs of emigration. Songs and dances from the folk tradition, with the general title O Misemos” (18th and 19th July).
Dance participation in the events of the Annual Meeting of the Sarakatsani in Sliven, Bulgaria (28th August).
On 7th February, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “Costumes of the Karagounidhes of Western Thessaly”.
The monthly newsletter of the Section of National Dances of the LtE was published, with the title “Psithyrismata” (“Whispers”). A total of 15 issues were published between March 1997 and August 1998.
Dancers participated in cultural events organised in April by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cities of Southern Russia with a notable Hellenic presence (Novorossiysk, Lazarevskaya, Sochi, Krasnodar, Stavropol, Yessentuki, and Vladikavkaz).

On 12th October, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “The feminine costume of Attica”.

Dancers participated in the handover ceremony for the Olympic Flame for the Winter Olympics in Nagano (19th December).
The Folk Dance Group participated in the Month of Culture events in Georgia, organised by the Ministry of Foreigh Affairs in June in collaboration with the Union of Greek Communities of Georgia, with shows in the cities of Tbilisi, Gori, Kutaisi, Akhaltsikhe, Batumi, and Tsalka.
The Folk Dance Group took part in the events at Expo ’98 in Lisbon (7th July).
The LtE took part in the 8e Biennale de la Danse in Lyon, with two performances titled “Les Noces Grecques. Rites-Danses-Chansonsdu mariage traditionnel” (20th and 24th September).
The Historical Archives section organised, for the first time, free Greek language and culture lessons for expatriate, foreign, immigrant, and refugee women in the academic year 1998/99, with volunteer teachers and 41 students in classes at two different levels. This programme continues today.
On 25th October, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “Costumes from Northern and Central Euboea”.

The first Dance Seminar was organised in Karpathos, with the participation of senior members and dance teachers from 23 LtE Annexes and 3 Bureaus abroad (22nd–26th August). The proceedings of the seminar were published in 2001.
The Folk Dance Group took part in the Damascus Folklore Festival with two performances at Azem Palace (29th September) and Tishreen Park (30th September).
On 4th October, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “Yannis Tsarouchis – Painter of the folk costume”.
Dance performance at the Greek National Opera on 19th October. The Côte d’Ivoire Consulate organised the event, and proceeds were donated in aid of the victims of the recent earthquake in Attiki and of sufferers of Buruli ulcer.
Eleni Tsaldari was elected president.
Dance performance at the Herodeion with the title “Two millennia of Hellenic music tradition” (3rd July), as part of the closing ceremony for the fifth Summit of the Vouli ton Efivon (Youth Parliament).

On 4th December, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “Costumes from the Northern Sporades and from Trikeri”.
On 27th March, the Folk Dance Group took part in the official opening of Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”.
The Municipality of Athens awarded the Medal of Honour and Beneficence of the City of Athens to the LtE.

Dance performance at the Herodeion with the title (from a poem by Andreas Kalvos) “Freedom requires virtue and courage” on 17th September, as part of a series of events for the sixth Summit of the Vouli ton Efivon (Youth Parliament).
The LtE announced the “Maria Himariou Scholarship Programme for Study Abroad, in memory of Dimosthenis Pouris”, in the fields of folklore, costumes, and ethnomusicology. The programme ended in 2011.
President of Greece Kostis Stefanopoulos officially opened the LtE’s renovated building on 6th March. The restoration and renovation was sponsored by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
On 31st March, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “The traditional costumes of Thrace”.
The LtE’s Music Section organised a concert by the New Hellenic Quartet at the Megaron (Athens Concert Hall) on 12th May, with works by Nikos Skalkotas. N. Skalkotas had collaborated with the LtE on the transcription, arrangement and presentation of the musical side of the Lykeion’s performances (1947–1948).
Joint performance in Constantinople by the Folk Dance Group and the Women’s Choir, as part of a programme of events organized by the Officialis Brotherhood of the Most Holy Lady Pammakaristos (1st to 3rd June).
The pilot programme “Greek dancing in schools as an elective activity” took place in 25 primary and secondary schools in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patra.
Dancers participate in events for the World Horticultural Exhibition in Rostock, Germany (10th July).

In November, the Folk Dance Group participated in cultural events to showcase Greece, organised by the Greek Embassy in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.
On 21st December, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “Women’s Greek regional costumes, inspired by the photographic archive of Emil Lester”.
Dance performances in Tokyo (15th May) and Osaka (17th May) as part of a programme of Greek-Japanese events ahead of the Athens Olympics.
The LtE contributed to the organisation of the Olympic Games in Athens, participating in the welcome and farewell ceremonies for the Olympic Flame, in medal ceremonies, and in the closing ceremony of the Games.

Dance performance at the Herodeion on 10th September, with the title (taken from traditional song) “If you love me and it’s a dream”, as part of events surrounding the ninth Summit of the Vouli ton Efivon (Youth Parliament).
On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Scientists’ Committee for Women’s Issues and Equality presented commemorative plaques to four “women in power”: Anna Psarouda-Benaki, Fofi Gennimata, Dora Bakoyanni, and Athanasia Tsampasi (5th April).
The Music section, under the aegis of the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens, performed a show in Technopoli with the title “All the Little Birds”. Taking part were all three choirs of the LtE (Women’s choir, Youth choir “Mousikes Anatropes (Musical Subversions)”, Children’s choir), the percussion and theatrical play sections, and acclaimed actors (12th June).
Dance performance with the title “Cymbals, Rattles, Drums” at the Arts Centre at ACS (5th and 6th November).
On 27th March, President of Greece Karolos Papoulias opened the exhibition “Pogoni – women’s costumes” at the Costume Museum of Lykeion ton Ellinidon.
Dancers participated in the Eurovision semifinal (18th May).
The Folk Dance Group took part in the Festival “Mawazine-Rytmes du Monde” in Rabat, Morocco, under the auspices of the King of Morocco (23rd May).
Dance performances in Beijing, as part of the Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE), in collaboration with the Greek National Tourism Organisation (20th–25th June).
Dance performance titled (after a traditional song) “...rejoice in dance and joy!” at the Attikon Alsos theatre, under the aegis of the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens (12th and 13th July).
Dance performance with the title (after a traditional song) “The nightingale asked me...” at the Art Centre at ACS (24th and 25th February).
The Folk Dance Group took part in events organised by the Greek National Tourism Organisation in Macao in June.
In June, the Music Section produced a musical called “Vassilis Tsitsanis” in Technopoli, in collaboration with the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens.
The Folk Dance Group participated in the China Shanghai International Arts Festival, on the occasion of the China Year of Culture, with Greece as the honoured country (25th–29th October).
As part of the Programme “Information Society”, the LtE Museum developed a Management and Documentation system for its collections, while also digitising more than 4,000 items.
On 4th February, Minister of Culture Michalis Liapis opened the exhibition “Greek Costume and Greek Painters” at the Costume Museum of the LtE.
The Chairperson of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, Mr G. Pirinski, was welcomed to the LtE premises on 17th March, during his official visit to Greece. Since then, the LtE has hosted receptions for honoured guests of the President of Greece or their spouses.
Performance at the El Ghouri Theatre in Cairo, as part of a Euro-Mediterranean collaboration for the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (25th May).
Dance performance in July, at the Ostia Antica ancient theatre, as part of the ceremony awarding Irini Papas with the Rome Prize.
Dance performance at the Herodeion with the title “In praise of talents, drums, and dances” on 18th July.
On 8th October, the National Council of Greek Women honoured the LtE at an event at the Old Parliament.
Dance performance on the theme of traditional Greek weddings, at the Hanoi Opera House in Vietnam in October, during the state visit by President of Greece Karolos Papoulias. A second performance was given in the “forbidden” city of Hue.
In December, the LtE signed the Declaration of Principles of Cooperation with the Organising Committee for the Special Olympics World Games - Athens 2011.
In February, the Music Section organised a musical afternoon in the Benaki Museum lecture theatre, with the title “Dances and songs from Hellenic folk tradition”, with G. Demertzis’ New Hellenic Quartet and mezzo-soprano Lenia Safiropoulou.
On the occasion of celebrating ICOM’s International Museum Day 2009, The Costume Museum of Lykeion ton Ellinidon’s annual contribution took the form of an event with the topic “Web + Cultural Tourism. From traditional… to online museum visitors”. It included an online video tour of costume exhibitions around the world (19th May).
Members of the Folk Dance Group took part in the opening ceremony for the International Children’s Games at the Panathinaikon Stadium on 24th June.
A Seminar for Training and Development in Traditional Dance Education was organised, with the collaboration and support of the “Friends of the LtE” society (January-December).
Mrs. Emine Erdogan was welcomed on 14th May, during the official visit of the President of Turkey to Greece.
The Section of National Dances responded to the call of non-profit company “Diadrasi” and took part in the programme “Agoni Grammi Gonimi”, during which dance teachers, in a voluntary capacity, taught traditional dances in schools on remote Greek islands.
The Folk Dance Group participated in the cultural events “Cavalcata Sarda” run by the Municipal Council of Sassari in Sardinia (24th May).
The Women’s Choir performed a concert in June, in collaboration with the French Institute in Athens and the Ordre des Palmes Académiques in Greece, with baritone Ilias Tiliakos as the soloist.
The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation published the collected volumeThe Lykeion ton Ellinidon: 100 years.
The LtE’s centenary was celebrated with a main event at the Academy of Athens, with President of Greece Karolos Papoulias in attendance (16th March).
On 23rd March, the LtE was given an award by the Society of the Friends of the People at their Μansion. The featured speaker was historian Loukia Droulia, and the Women’s Choir took part.
On 6th April, the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation awarded the LtE for its 100 years of operation.
The young pupils of the Art Section submitted their drawings to the International Children’s Art Competition organised in April by Mizyal Art Center in Turkey, with the theme “Traditional Costumes of our Country”. Two pupils’ entries were commended.
The Folk Dance Group took part in the opening (25th June) and closing (4th July) ceremonies of the Athens 2011 Special Olympics World Games.
As part of the celebrations for the LtE’s centenary, the 15th Panhellenic Conference of the Lykeion ton Ellinidon took place in Athens from 3rd to 6th November, with the theme “the expansion of the institution of the LtE”.
On 25th November, an exhibition opened at the Costume Museum of LtE with the title “100 years of a living collection”.
The anniversary version of the LtE’s Bulletin was published in December.
